What better way to celebrate Senior Night than by sweeping your rivals from down the road? That’s exactly what the UNC swimming and diving teams did Friday night in Chapel Hill, posting wins over the Blue Devils on both the men’s and women’s sides.
“I’m proud of my team for winning two meets that were really close and hard fought,” UNC head coach Mark Gangloff said. “This is one of the seniors’ favorite meets every year, if not the favorite meet. To send our seniors out on top means the world because they’ve given so much to our program.”
Though the seniors were honored, it was UNC freshman Louis Dramm who stole the show against the Blue Devils, winning three events: the 1000m freestyle, 500m freestyle and 200m individual medley.
“I’ve seen this coming from Louis for a long time,” Gangloff said. “The way he has trained this year has set him to be dominant in his events. I think there is a lot more to come from Louis at the ACC Championships.”
Divers Anton Down-Jenkins and Aranza Vazquez continued their strong performances this season, with both winning their respective 1-meter and 3-meter events.
The swimming and diving teams won’t be competing together again until the ACC Championships in Greensboro, which start on February 14. They’ll compete in separate events in Virginia on the weekend of February 3.
