The UNC swimming and diving program announced Tuesday morning its dual meet with NC State, scheduled for Friday in Chapel Hill, would be postponed due to COVID-related protocols within the Carolina program.

This meet was the first scheduled action for the swimming and diving program for the spring season. The Tar Heels hadn’t competed since Winter Diving Nationals in December. Their next scheduled event, a dual meet at Virginia on January 21, is still on the schedule as of Tuesday.

The swimming and diving team is the second UNC program to enter COVID protocols during the 2021-22 year, after the wrestling team had to pull out of a meet earlier in January.

Per the ACC’s updated COVID policies, the cancellation will not count against Carolina’s record as a loss this season. The men’s team is 1-3 in dual meets this season, while the women are 2-2. UNC only has one other home dual meet on the schedule, when the women’s team takes on Texas on January 29. The ACC Championships are currently scheduled for February 15 through February 19, while the NCAA Championships begin on March 5.
