While our community’s various local governments held special meetings during a summer break, a full slate of meetings and agenda items is set for September. The extension of Orange County’s state of emergency allows for boards and councils to continue meeting virtual through the end of October, meaning many of the meetings listed here will be held online.
Chapel Hill Town Government
The Chapel Hill Town Council is slated to meet three times over the course of September. Starting at 7 p.m. and being held virtually, the council will meeting on three Wednesdays: September 9, September 16 and September 30.
The public is encouraged to register for the meetings in webinar fashion if they want to participate in public comment, but all videos can be live-streamed and accessed after completion on the town website in the following days.

Carrboro Town Government
The Carrboro Town Council is slated to meet nearly every Tuesday of the month, starting at 7 p.m. That includes September 1, September 8, September 15 and September 22.

Hillsborough Town Government
Hillsborough’s Board of Commissioners is one of the few local governments that held regular meetings in August. It will continue its schedule by meeting twice in September: once on Monday, September 14, and again on Monday, September 28. The meetings are set to be held virtually and will begin at 7 p.m.

Orange County Government
The Orange County Board of Commissioners have two meetings scheduled for September, the first of which is on the first day. The board will meet at 7 p.m. virtually on Tuesday, September 1 and again on Tuesday, September 15. In addition, the commissioners will hold a joint school board meeting with Orange County Schools and Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools on Thursday, September 24. A work session for the board is scheduled for Thursday, September 10.

Chatham County Government
The Chatham County Board of Commissioners has held a handful of in-person meetings over the summer, indicating their business meetings in September may also be conducted in-person. The commissioners are slated to hold a special meeting Thursday, September 3, at the Chatham County Agriculture & Conference Center in Pittsboro. The start time is slated for 6 p.m.
The board will hold its regular business meeting on Monday, September 21, which is also set for 6 p.m. at the Agriculture & Conference Center.
