This series of posts will be made monthly on Chapelboro to help inform our community when local government meetings will be. All meeting days, locations and times may be subject to change. Check respective town websites for additional information.

Despite Election Day on Tuesday, November will be a relatively slower month for local government meetings in Orange County and Chatham County. Fewer local races are affected by the election and the town groups will meet less as the holiday season begins. But that doesn’t mean their agendas won’t be full of various items, as the local officials continue to meet through virtual formats.

Here is when to expect local government meetings among our community in November.

Chapel Hill Town Government

After a busy month in October, the Chapel Hill Town Council will only meet twice this month. Both the meeting on Wednesday November 4 and the meeting on Wednesday November 18 will be held virtually, due to the ongoing pandemic. Both meetings should begin at 7 p.m.

The public is encouraged to register for the meetings in webinar fashion if they want to participate in public comment, but all videos can be live-streamed and accessed after completion on the town website in the following days.

Carrboro Town Government

Carrboro will be one of the local government affected by Election Day, since the town council typically meets on Tuesdays. It means one less meeting for the group, but there are still two scheduled on Tuesday November 10 and Tuesday November 17. Both are expected to begin at 7 p.m. and will be available to stream or watch on Channel 18 of local cable television.

Hillsborough Town Government

Having met in the last week of October, Hillsborough’s Board of Commissioners are not slated for their first bi-weekly meeting of the month until Monday November 9. Another meeting will be held virtually on Monday November 23, with both set to begin at 7 p.m.

Orange County Government

Similar to Carrboro, Orange County’s Board of Commissioners meeting time this first week of November will be disrupted by Election Day. Instead, the board will hold its meeting on Thursday November 5 starting at 7 p.m. The commissioners will also hold a work session on Thursday November 12 and a business meeting on Tuesday November 17. Both meetings will also begin at 7 p.m.

Chatham County Government

The Chatham County Board of Commissioners will hold two meetings in November, with both holding a special agenda item. One scheduled for 6 p.m. on Monday November 2 will feature the presentation of the Capital Improvements Program, or CIP, to the public. Done every year, the CIP examines the county’s long-term funding plan for major capital needs and projects in the upcoming seven years.

The county commissioners will hold a work and regular session later in the month on Monday November 16 and will also use that meeting to hold a public hearing on the CIP plan for 2022-2028. That meeting is expected to begin at 2 p.m.
