Local governments across Orange and Chatham County are preparing for their final meetings of the year, covering important topics before heading onto holiday breaks. Most continue to meet virtually due to COVID-19, but that doesn’t make their agendas less full and the items less important to our community.
Here is when to expect the main governing bodies among our community to meet in December.
Chapel Hill Town Government
The Chapel Hill Town Council will hold just one business meeting this month, on Wednesday December 9 at 7 p.m. The group will have a work session, however, on Wednesday December 2 starting at 6:30 p.m.
The public is encouraged to register for the meetings in webinar fashion if they want to participate in public comment, but all videos can be live-streamed and accessed after completion on the town website in the following days.
The town will then close most operations on December 24, 25 and 28 to recognize the holidays.

Carrboro Town Government
Despite there being five Tuesdays in December, the Carrboro Town Council is only slated to meet one time. Council members are set to meet on Tuesday December 1 at 7 p.m.

Hillsborough Town Government
The Town of Hillsborough’s Board of Commissioners will hold its final business meeting of 2020 toward the middle of the month. The board is set to meet on Monday December 14 at 7 p.m.
The full calendar for the Hillsborough Town Government can be found here.
Orange County Government
The Orange County Board of Commissioners will meet twice this month, once on Monday December 7 at 7 p.m. and again on Tuesday December 15 at 7 p.m. The first meeting is an atypical one for the board, but is scheduled as an organizational meeting to swear in new county commissioners elected last month. The board will resume its business meetings the next Tuesday.

Chatham County Government
Chatham County’s Board of Commissioners is slated to meet three times in December. A work session and business meeting is scheduled for Monday December 7 at 2 p.m., while a work session on the county’s Capital Investment Plan is to be held Wednesday December 9 at 9 a.m. The board will hold another business meeting, its final of the year, on Monday December 21 at 2 p.m.
