Orange County’s local governments are not in the election cycle this year, but that doesn’t mean October is not packed with lots of important agenda items, meetings and discussions between officials. Especially as they work to continue navigating the COVID-19 pandemic and state health guidelines. The same can be said for Chatham County, which does have county commissioners on the ballot.
Here is when to expect local government meetings in our community as the fall season takes shape this month.
Chapel Hill Town Government
The Chapel Hill Town Council met on the final day of September, passing approval on a big potential development project. In addition, the council aims to meet three more times in October. All the virtual meetings will be held on Wednesdays, like usual, on October 7, 21 and 28. The meetings on October 7 and October 28 will begin at 7 p.m., with the October 21 meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The public is encouraged to register for the meetings in webinar fashion if they want to participate in public comment, but all videos can be live-streamed and accessed after completion on the town website in the following days.

Carrboro Town Government
Like in September, the Carrboro Town Council is slated to meet every week. The group will hold virtual meetings on each Tuesday of the month: October 6, 13, 20 and 27. All of them are expected to begin at 7 p.m. and will be available to stream or watch on Channel 18 of local cable television.

Having met in the last week of September, Hillsborough’s Board of Commissioners are not slated for their first bi-weekly meeting of the month until Monday October 12. Another meeting will be held virtually on Monday October 26, with both set to begin at 7 p.m.

Orange County Government
The Orange County Board of Commissioners have two business meetings scheduled for this month on Tuesday October 6 and Tuesday October 20, both to begin at 7 p.m. and to be held virtually. In addition, the board will have a virtual work session on Thursday October 8.
