A Winston-Salem resident faces several felony charges stemming from larcenies reported from the Carolina Meadows Retirement Community in Chapel Hill.

A release from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday said it arrested 22-year-old Darryl Neal on Tuesday, August 27 in connection to thefts reported between May 11 and September 27, 2023. According to investigators, Neal is an employee of the Winston-Salem-based internet service provider NetUnlimited — and he allegedly stole valuable items from residents’ homes while on-site for the company.

The sheriff’s office said NetUnlimited customers reported items like rings and necklaces were missing after Neal’s visits to the retirement community, which is located off Mt. Carmel Church Road in the Chapel Hill part of Chatham County. Investigators say Neal took the items and then pawned them off, sometimes during the same day that he worked at the victims’ residences.

According to Thursday’s release, Neal faces three counts of felony larceny, three counts of felony possession of stolen property, and three counts of obtaining property by false pretense. He is being held without bond at the Chatham County Detention Center, and his first court appearance is slated for Monday, September 23 in Pittsboro.

Chapelboro spoke with a NetUnlimited representative, who confirmed Neal is no longer an employee with the service provider, and has not been employed there for some time.
