A Chapel Hill man faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon and felony first-degree kidnapping after an assault from mid-November.
The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office shared a release on Monday to detail charges stemming from a 911 call from November 16. A mother reported being attacked by her son with a knife, and when sheriff’s deputies arrived to the scene at 97533 Franklin Ridge, they reported finding the female victim with stab wounds to her head, neck, and hands.
Deputies took the suspect — 29-year-old Christian Arnold Ramsland — into custody. Monday’s release said Ramsland was put under emergency involuntary commitment “after exhibiting signs of a mental health crisis that warranted immediate evaluation.” Both the victim and suspect were transported to hospitals for treatment.
The sheriff’s office said Monday that Ramsland has been charged following his release from medical care. A spokesperson for the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office confirmed he is being held at the Chatham County Detention Center.
Ramsland is under a $50,000 secured bond and is slated to first appear in Chatham County District Court for the charges on January 29, 2024.
