A Chapel Hill and Chatham County resident faces several felony charges for alleged child-related sex offenses, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

A release from the office Tuesday afternoon said deputies detained 48-year-old Shawn Lyle Grubb in connection to a report received in April earlier this year. As investigators looked into allegations against the resident of Legacy Falls Drive, they ultimately decided to charge him with “a string of felonies,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Shawn Lyle Grubb, 48, of Chapel Hill.

Grubb faces charges of indecent liberties with a child, attempted first-degree rape, kidnapping and two counts of statutory sex offense with a child by an adult. Additionally, he faces misdemeanor assault on a female and false imprisonment charges that Tuesday’s release said are related to the case.

In North Carolina, indecent liberties with a child is a Class F felony, which carries a maximum sentence to 59 months in jail.

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said Grubb is identified as a former friend of the victim’s family. He was assigned a $100,000 secured bond and is slated to appear in court on the charges Monday, August 15.
