Hillsborough Hog Day had to postpone this year because of Hurricane Florence – but Hog Day is back on for Friday and Saturday, November 2 and 3! Head to River Park in Hillsborough Friday from 6-10 pm and then all day Saturday from 10-4.
Located in Hillsborough is a perfect recreation of the Michael Myers house from the classic film Halloween…and YOU are invited to the house on Saturday, October 20, for their 10th annual Halloween Bash! Monday, October 15, the town of Carrboro is holding its first-ever Mayor’s Roundtable, bringing together all of the town’s living former mayors plus current mayor Lydia Lavelle. Everyone’s invited – head to the Century Center beginning at 6 pm.
The town of Chapel Hill is holding a dedication ceremony Saturday, October 20, at 9:30 am to mark the installation of a new artpiece on the Tanyard Branch Trail. Everyone’s invited…head to Umstead Park and walk the trail to the pedestrian bridge where the artwork is located.
Monday, October 8, Carolina Public Humanities is hosting a free and open public discussion on “public spaces and collective memories,” including (but not limited to) Silent Sam. Former UNC chancellor James Moeser will be among the panelists. It’s at 7 pm at Chapel of the Cross on East Franklin Street downtown; get more info at Humanities.UNC.edu.
Monday, October 8, the League of Women Voters is hosting a screening of the documentary “Backpack Full Of Cash,” about the financial impact of charter schools and vouchers on the public school systems. It’ll be at 7 pm in Building 5 of Durham Tech Community College, on the main campus in Durham, with a discussion to follow.
