The Carrboro driver license office is one of 11 operating under extended hours under a new initiative from the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles.
The additional 11 locations bring the total number of driver license offices statewide operating under extended weekday hours to 25. DMV officials described the 25 offices as “among the busiest driver license offices in North Carolina.”
The change comes after the DMV came under scrutiny over the summer as customer lines were growing to hours-long waits and some customers were not being served.
“NCDMV has also deployed additional staff at busy offices, established dedicated road test teams, created express lines for customers with quick transactions, and started having staff speak with customers in line to ensure they have the correct paperwork,” officials said in a release.
The Carrboro driver license office will now operate from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The change was effective Monday.
