Gov. Cooper Names Chapel Hill, Carrboro Community Members to State Advisory Roles

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper named several people to state advisory boards and commissions on Friday. Among there are a handful of Chapel Hill and Carrboro community members.

Dr. Michael Kunz of Chapel Hill is one of those. Cooper appointed Kunz to the North Carolina Plant Conservation Board. His role will be to represent the North Carolina Botanical Garden on the board, which is located in Chapel Hill. Kunz has worked as the Conservation Ecologist for the garden since 2005.

Longtime Chapel Hill resident Fred Black also earned an appointment from Cooper. He is tabbed to serve as a public member on the state’s Military Affairs Commission. Black worked as an Associate Professor of Political Science at the United States Military Academy in West Point and is also a veteran of the U.S. Army. Since then, he has since retired from working as an independent management consultant.

From Carrboro, Cooper selected Elizabeth Ann Pyle to serve on the North Carolina Board of Architecture and Registered Interior Designers. Plye works as a Senior Interior Designer with Tina Barnard Designs in Morrisville, where she’s been for six years.

Among the other appointments are two people with ties to UNC. Dr. Anne York, who spent time on the faculty for the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School and the graduate school’s Graduate Education Advancement Board, was named to the North Carolina State Museum of Natural Sciences Advisory Commission. Additionally, UNC graduate Bailey Recktenwald, who has worked as a special assistant to the policy director in the Office of the Governor, was named to the North Carolina Internship Council.
