Tuesday, August 28, you’re invited to UNC’s Kenan Institute for Private Enterprise at the Kenan-Flagler Business School.

From 5:00-6:30, they’re holding their annual open house, giving people a chance to meet the staff and learn more about their ongoing projects. At the Kenan Conference Center, behind the Dean Dome – more info online at KenanInstitute.UNC.edu.


Thursday, September 20, head to Chapel Hill Town Hall from 6-8 pm for a community forum on the local impact of criminal justice debt, a forum sponsored by Chapel Hill’s Justice in Action Committee, Orange County’s Criminal Justice Department, and the NAACP.

Presenters include Orange County Commissioner Mark Dorosin, UNC law professor Gene Nichol, and former Orange County public defender James Williams.


Friday, September 21, Healthy Carolinians of Orange County will host the annual “Be the Light” suicide prevention walk in Hillsborough, 6:30-8:30 pm in Gold Park and Riverwalk to raise awareness of the prevalence of suicide and raise awareness of how to recognize warning signs and help loved ones if they’re in danger. Saturday, October 20, Orange County will honor the life and legacy of longtime Aging director Jerry Passmore, with a public ceremony at 2 pm at the Passmore Center in Hillsborough.


Wednesday, September 12, the SECU Family House is holding a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of its major expansion project.

Saturday, September 8, bring your dogs to the Hargraves Community Center for Orange County’s 14th annual Dog Swim!

Noon to 3 pm at the A.D. Clark pool. Orange County dogs can swim for 10 dollars; 15 dollars for non-Orange County dogs.
