
Communities around Orange County will interrupt their normal service schedules during the upcoming winter holidays.
Here’s what customers can expect:
Town of Chapel Hill
Town of Chapel Hill government offices will be closed from Wednesday, Dec. 24 through Friday, Dec. 26.
Residential trash collection will not be affected. Yard trimmings will not be collected on Dec. 25 or 26. Collections will resume the following week. Commercial trash will not be collected on Dec. 25 or 26. Crews will complete collections earlier in the week. Curbside recycling will not be collected on Dec. 25. Thursday’s routes will be serviced on Friday, Dec. 26, and Friday’s routes will be serviced on Saturday, Dec. 27.
The Orange County Landfill and Waste & Recycling Center will be closed Dec. 25 and will reopen Dec. 26.
Chapel Hill Transit’s schedule is as follows:
- Monday, Dec. 22: Local service only. No CCX, FCX or JFX routes. NU service will end at 7 p.m.
- Tuesday, Dec 23: Local service only. No CCX, FCX or JFX routes. NU service will end at 7 p.m.
- Wednesday, Dec. 24: Sunday service. No U, NU or Senior Shuttle routes.
- Thursday, Dec. 25: No service
- Friday, Dec. 26: Sunday service. No U, NU or Senior Shuttle routes.
- Saturday, Dec. 27: Sunday service.

The Chapel Hill Public Library will be closed from Dec. 24 through Dec 28. It will close at 6 p.m. on Dec. 31 and be closed Jan. 1.
Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation facilities, including the Community Center and Pool, Hargraves Center and Homestead Aquatics Center, will be closed Dec. 24-26.

Town of Carrboro
Town of Carrboro offices will be closed from Dec. 24 through Dec. 26.
Waste collection scheduled for Dec. 24 will be moved to Monday, Dec. 22, collection scheduled for Dec. 25 will be moved to Tuesday, Dec. 23 and collection scheduled for Dec. 26 will be moved to Monday, Dec. 29.
Yard waste and bulk waste will not be collected the week of Dec. 22-26.

Town of Hillsborough
Town offices will be closed from Dec. 24 through Dec. 26.
Solid waste routes will not be serviced on Dec. 24, 25 or 26. Residential solid waste collection will occur on Tuesday, Dec. 23 for homes which receive service on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Collection will occur on Monday, Dec. 29 for homes which receive service on Thursdays, Fridays or Mondays.
Curbside recycling collection will not be affected inside town limits.
Christmas trees may be placed curbside for collection with yard waste. Trees must be removed from the stand and be free of decoration. Trees may also be brought to any of Orange County’s Waste & Recycling Centers except the facility on Bradshaw Quarry Road.

Orange County
Orange County’s government offices will be closed from Dec. 24 through Dec. 26.
Recycling pick-up will take place as scheduled on Dec. 24. Pick-ups scheduled for Dec. 25 will be collected on Dec. 26, and pick-ups scheduled for Dec. 26 will be collected on Saturday, Dec. 27. There will also be no recycling collection on Thursday, Jan. 1, and recycling collections to the remainder of that week will be delayed by one day. The Orange County Landfill/Disposal Centers, Waste and Recycling Centers and Solid Waste Administrative Offices will be closed on Dec. 24, 25 and 26 as well as Jan. 1.
Orange County Animal Services will be closed from Dec. 24 through Dec. 26 and on Jan. 1. Animal Services asks residents to call 911 for any animal-related emergency during the closure.
The Orange County Public Library in Hillsborough and the Southern Branch Library in Carrboro will be closed from Dec. 24 through Dec. 26 and on Jan. 1.
