
The observation of Memorial Day Monday, May 25 will affect local government services around the Orange County community. Here’s what residents can expect:
Town of Chapel Hill
Memorial Day is an official town holiday. Most town and other administrative offices will be closed.
Residential trash will not be collected on Monday, with the make-up day scheduled for Wednesday, May 27. The yard trimmings collection schedule will not change. Curbside recycling collection will be delayed by one day, and the Orange County Landfill and other waste and recycling centers will be closed. Commercial trash will not be collected, but collections will be completed by the end of the week.
Chapel Hill Transit will not operate May 25, and the Chapel Hill Public Library will be closed.
The Parks and Recreation administrative offices, Chapel Hill Community Center Pool, Hargraves Center and Corner Teen Center will all be closed Monday. The Nate Davis, Sr. Gymnasium, Homestead Aquatic Center and A.D. Clark Outdoor Pool will be open Monday. For more information, click here.
Town of Carrboro
Town offices will be closed on Monday.
Yard waste and loose leaves will not be collected Monday, and residents who normally have waste and loose leaves collected Monday will be serviced Tuesday.
The Orange County Veterans memorial committee will host a Memorial Day program at 8:45 a.m. Monday at the Veterans Memorial Site, located at 2501 Homestead Road. You can learn more about that event here.

Town of Hillsborough
Hillsborough town offices will be closed.
There will be no garbage collection on Monday. The following day will see Monday’s and Tuesday’s routes combined. For more information, click here.
Orange County
Orange County administrative offices will be closed Monday.
Curbside recycling will not be collected Monday and will be delayed by one day. Recycling and convenience centers, Solid Waste administrative offices and the landfill will all be closed.
All branches of the Orange County Library will be closed Monday, but will operate as normal on Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24.
Orange County Animal Services will be closed Sunday (as normal) and Monday but will operate Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
