After Hurricane Helene devastated western North Carolina last week, numerous local organizations, businesses and schools have set up donation drives to help those affected. Below is a list of drives around our area, in alphabetical order by the group:
All About Insurance shifted its regular Sock-Tober clothing drive to exclusively support Hurricane Helene relief efforts. All 10 locations of the insurance company, including its Carrboro and Durham locations, are drop-off sites for items and supplies that will go to the United Way and its response in western North Carolina.
Alumni Hall on Franklin Street, which sells UNC merchandise and clothing, will be donating a portion of all online sales this week (Sept. 30 through Oct. 6) to Hurricane Helene relief.
The American Red Cross has an #Orange4WNC campaign set up on its website, with a stated goal of $20,000. It’s described as “a personal campaign sponsored by grassroots community support across Orange County, North Carolina.” To donate, click here.
The restaurant Armadillo Grill has set up a donation center at the Orange County Social Club in Carrboro. The club is located at 108 East Main Street.
Back Alley Bikes, located at 100 Boyd Street in Carrboro, is accepting donations. The business is partnering with Art Post in Durham and Raleigh United Mutual Aid Hub (RUMAH) in Raleigh.
Beer Study in Chapel Hill is donating a 10% of its sales this week to Samaritans Purse to help with recovery efforts, after also filling some of its kegs with water to take to western North Carolina. The business also did significant fundraising on its Facebook page to buy generators and gasoline for people helping with recovery efforts.
The Cave on West Franklin Street is planning several benefit shows and fundraising events to help Helene victims, with the first being a pool tournament set for Sunday, Oct. 6. More upcoming events can be found on the venue’s website.
The Chapel Hill Wine Company is serving as a drop-off point for donations in partnership with Operation Airdrop. The business aims to fill its delivery van by 12 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4 with supplies, which will then be driven to Concord and airlifted into some of the communities most impacted by the storm. The Democratic Party and Harris-Walz campaign turned two of its local offices into drop-off sites for donations, organizing their own relief effort running from Saturday, Oct. 5 through Friday, Oct. 11. The Carrboro office is located at 209 Lloyd Street, while the Durham office is at 203 East Chapel Hill Street.
Emerge Pediatric Therapy is taking donations at its three Triangle-area locations, including at 110 Two Hills Drive in Carrboro, through Thursday Oct. 3. The items, which include clean-up supplies, clothing, and personal hygiene products, will be driven to western North Carolina at the end of the week.
Fitch Lumber & Hardware is setting up two drop-off locations. The first is at the business’ brick-and-mortar location at 309 North Greensboro Street in Carrboro, and the second is located at 2431 Manns Chapel Road in Pittsboro.
Glee Kids in Chapel Hill, as well as Weaver Street Market in Carrboro, teamed up with the Diaper Bank of North Carolina to raise funds and infant necessities. Supplies can be dropped off at Glee Kids’ location in Southern Village during business hours (10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays).
The Kappa Kappa Psi fraternity at UNC is accepting donations in Room 106 at Hill Hall, located at 145 East Cameron Avenue in Chapel Hill until Thursday, Oct. 3. Questions can be directed to Clara Hockenberry at 828-708-4280 or chockenberry@unc.edu.

Maple View Farm Ice Cream is partnering with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office to accept donations. The store is located at 6900 Rocky Ridge Road in Hillsborough.
The North Carolina Arts Foundation is accepting donations, either by check or via online payment (PayPal and Venmo). Checks should be made payable to the foundation and mailed to PO Box 26263, Raleigh, NC 27611. Checks intended for donation should have RELIEF written on the memo line. A donation center has been set up at Orange High School, located at 500 Orange High School Road in Hillsborough.
In restaurant efforts, Rise Southern Biscuits & Righteous Chicken is going to donate 10% of all sales from its stores across the country on Saturday, Oct. 5 to hurricane relief. The proceeds will go to MANNA FoodBank in Asheville, an organization that has already been distributing food and water to those hardest hit by the storm, according to the restaurant.
Shortbread Lofts in Chapel Hill is offering its lobby as a donation area, taking supplies like non-perishable foods, children’s toys, cleaning supplies and more.
Top of the Hill Restaurant and Brewery is accepting donations on Wednesday, October 2 and Thursday, October 3 for Operation Airdrop. The restaurant is located at 100 East Franklin Street in Chapel Hill.
Carolina Athletics asked Tar Heel fans to consider bringing donations to the UNC football game on Saturday, Oct. 5 against Pitt. Donations will be collected in the team’s equipment trailer and at various sites around Kenan Stadium and park-and-ride lots before and after the game.
The UNC Center for the Study of the American South organized its own Hurricane Helene relief drive, with people urged to drop off supplies at its house on East Franklin Street. The collection box will either be inside from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or outside on its porch all other hours.
The UNC Club Ice Hockey team is offering free admission for fans who bring hurricane relief supplies to their games on Friday, October 4 and Saturday, October 5 at the Orange County Sportsplex, located at 101 Meadowlands Drive in Hillsborough. Friday’s and Saturday’s games both begin at 10:15 p.m.

UNC Police’s K-9 Unit is also helping out, with a donation drive meant to support pets impacted by the hurricane’s damage. The drive will collect essential items for displaced pet owners and shelters, with supplies meant to be dropped off at the UNC Public Safety Building at 285 Manning Drive. Vimala’s CurryBlossom Cafe will host a touring Hindustani classical singer for an event going toward hurricane relief support on Saturday, Oct. 5. A variety of other live musicians will perform in the courtyard from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
