Monday marks the observance of Labor Day, which is meant to celebrate the contribution of workers and employees across the United States. With that, the local governments in Orange County will be giving many of their employees the day off, which will affect certain local government services.

Ahead of the holiday on Monday, September 1, here is a rundown of what services each local government has said will be altered:

Town of Chapel Hill

Town offices will be closed Monday.

Residential trash collection will be delayed until Wednesday, September 3. Commercial trash will also not be collected on Labor Day, but will be completed by the end of the week. Curbside recycling that week will be delayed by one day.

The Chapel Hill Public Library will be closed. Chapel Hill Transit will not operate any routes except for the Tar Heel Express, which will service fans attending the UNC football game that night.

Parks and recreation administrative offices, the Hargraves Center, Teen Center on East Franklin Street and Community Center Indoor Pool will be closed — while parks, greenways, trails and other outdoor amenities will remain open.

The Chapel Hill Community Center, Homestead Aquatics Center, Nate Davis, Sr. Gymnasium and A.D. Clark Pool will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Labor Day.
