An Orange County resident found one of ten $100,000 prizes in a North Carolina Education Lottery scratch-off series.

The state lottery office shared that Steven Smith of Hillsborough claimed his winnings at the lottery headquarters on Monday. He bought a $30 MAX-A-MILLION scratch-off ticket from A&M Mini Mart on Burlington Road in Roxboro. After state and federal tax withholdings, Smith netted $72,018.

The North Carolina Education Lottery debuted its MAX-A-MILLION game in March 2025, with the tickets featuring 25 top prizes of $1 million and 10 prizes of $100,000. After Smith’s win, there are 15 remaining million-dollar prizes and six $100,000 prizes yet to be claimed.
