Carolina Athletics is encouraging fans to bring donation items for Hurricane Helene victims in western North Carolina to the football game against Pittsburgh on Saturday, October 5.
Donations will be accepted between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at various sites around the stadium and Chapel Hill. The game kicks off at 12 p.m.
The following sites are designated as drop-off locations:
- Kenan Stadium Gate 2
- Kenan Stadium Gate 3
- Kenan Stadium Gate 6
- Friday Center Park & Ride Lot (1458 Raleigh Road)
- Front of UNC Ticket Office on Skipper Bowles Drive
Suggested donation items are:
- Cases of water
- Premixed, ready-to-use baby formula
- Baby wipes
- Hygiene products, such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, hand sanitizer and feminine products
- Diapers
- Shampoo and body wash
- Flashlights and lanterns
All donations will be delivered to western North Carolina by Lee’s 24-Hour Towing and go directly to individuals impacted by the storm. The UNC football equipment trailer will be located outside of Gate 2 to collect supplies.
“It’s really devastating,” head coach Mack Brown, who owns a house in Linville, N.C., said of the storm’s damage. “They don’t have phone service. They don’t have wi-fi. Roads are out. Trees are down. They’re encouraging people not to go to the mountains. People that are up there can’t get off the mountain. They don’t have food. There’s not water in some of the hospitals. It is totally devastating to think that a storm could do that much damage.”
