A 4-0 shutout victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies on Thursday evening extended the fifth-ranked UNC women’s soccer team’s winning streak to a whopping eight games.

Julia Ashley’s first goal of the season came in the 14th minute, and put the Tar Heels ahead early on in Blacksburg.

UNC (12-2, 8-0 ACC) held tight defensively for the majority of the match once it gained the lead. That is, until late in the second half.

The Tar Heels received a pair of goals just 14 seconds apart in the 74th minute–one from Abby Elinsky and the second from Bridgette Andrzejewski.

Alea Hyatt then chipped in another in the 87th minute just for good measure.

It was yet another dominant performance from head coach Anson Dorrance’s squad, which piled up 17 shots on Thursday compared to just two for Virginia Tech (7-5-4, 1-4-3 ACC).

For UNC, the win completed a perfect 6-0 road record against conference competition for the season–an extremely impressive feat in its own right.

Now, the Tar Heels must prepare themselves for a game against Louisville on Sunday (10:00 a.m.) at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.
