The struggles continue for the 16th-ranked UNC baseball team, which lost its series opener in Blacksburg on Friday by a score of 4-1 to the host Virginia Tech Hokies.

This loss comes just three days after the Tar Heels (16-7, 2-5 ACC) were on the wrong end of a 2-0 shutout against Liberty.

Jack Owens hit a two-run single in the bottom of the second inning to give the Hokies (16-6, 4-3 ACC) an early 2-0 lead against Tar Heel starter Tyler Baum, before teammate Luke Horanski doubled the lead with a two-run home run in the home half of the fifth frame.

UNC mustered its only run on an RBI single from Dylan Harris in the top of the ninth inning, which represented one of the Tar Heels’ only three hits in the entire game.

The Tar Heels have now lost six of their last 10 games.
