The seventh-ranked UNC baseball team used a stellar offensive performance from the trio of Michael Busch, Kyle Datres and Ashton McGee on Friday at Boshamer Stadium to power past the Virginia Tech Hokies by a score of 11-2.

With the win, the Tar Heels (36-17, 21-8 ACC) clinch the series victory in their final series of the regular season–all while putting themselves in position to claim the top overall seed in the ACC Tournament with a win in Saturday’s season finale.

Busch and Datres each had four hits in the game, with Datres coming just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. McGee, meanwhile, had three hits and three RBIs including a solo home run in the fifth inning.

In total, the trio combined to drive in six runs and accounted for 11 of the Tar Heels’ 14 hits in the game.

UNC jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back–building the margin to 10-2 after just five innings.

Austin Bergner received the win on the mound for the Tar Heels after tossing six solid innings, allowing just three hits in the process. For the game, Virginia Tech (21-32) tallied just five hits overall.
