After jumping out to an early lead on Friday in Blacksburg, the UNC baseball team allowed Virginia Tech to score seven runs in the fifth inning before falling to the Hokies 10-6.

Caleb Roberts homered twice and drove in four runs for the Tar Heels (6-2, 2-2 ACC), as they built a 6-1 lead following the top of the fifth inning.

The Hokies (6-1, 3-1 ACC) roared back in the home half of the inning to take the lead, however, then added two more runs in the sixth as insurance.

UNC led off the eighth inning with two consecutive singles, but was unable to turn that momentum into scoring.

In addition to Roberts’ performance offensively, UNC’s Brett Centracchio went 3-for-4.

This was the Tar Heels’ first road game of the young season.
