Monday afternoon marked the release of the annual Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Preseason Top 25 poll, with UNC selected to start the 2019 season ranked No. 2 in the nation.

The Tar Heels tied for the No. 2 spot with Maryland, and are only behind ACC rival Boston College.

Head coach Jenny Levy’s team will be seeking its eighth Final Four appearance in the last 11 seasons this year, after losing to defending national champion James Madison in the national semifinals last season.

UNC will have a chance to avenge that loss in its season opener on Feb. 9 when it hosts James Madison, which is ranked No. 4 to start the 2019 campaign.

Stony Brook is ranked No. 5 in the nation, followed by a group that includes: No. 6 Florida, No. 7 Northwestern, No. 8 Princeton, No. 9 Loyola and No. 10 Penn.
