Thanks to a surprise upset by unranked Evansville over the previous No. 1 team in the nation, Kentucky, UNC was able to slide up one spot to No. 5 in this week’s edition of the Associated Press Men’s Basketball Top 25.

UNC’s only game this past week was a 77-61 home victory over Gardner-Webb on Friday. This marks the Tar Heels’ first appearance in the top five all season.

Duke is the new No. 1 team in America, followed by No. 2 Louisville, No. 3 Michigan State, No. 4 Kansas and UNC.

The rest of the top 10 includes: No. 6 Maryland, No. 7 Virginia, No. 8 Gonzaga, No. 9 Kentucky and No. 10 Ohio State.

No other ACC teams are ranked in the poll, despite the league having four of the top seven teams in the nation (Duke, Louisville, UNC and Virginia).
