The ACC recognized UNC redshirt sophomore Daniel McArthur as its Men’s Field Performer of the Week on Wednesday, after he set a new school record in the shot put.

Competing at the Gamecock Inaugural in Columbia, South Carolina this past weekend, McArthur’s throw of 19.22 meters broke a 14-year-old record held by four-time Olympian Vikas Gowda.

That throw was good enough for best in the ACC so far this season by nearly five feet, and ranks sixth in the nation.

McArthur also becomes the first Tar Heel track and field athlete to win an ACC weekly award this season.
