Thursday saw a trio of Tar Heel women’s lacrosse players named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association All-American teams, led by senior midfielder Marie McCool.

McCool and sophomore attacker Katie Hoeg were each First Team selections, while senior attacker Ela Hazar earned a spot on the Third Team.

Throughout the 2018 campaign–which saw the Tar Heels come up short in the NCAA Semifinals after a fantastic regular season–McCool was the engine that made the team run. She led the team in draw controls and ground balls, while scoring 59 goals and dishing out 23 assists.

Hoeg, meanwhile, was outstanding in her first year as a starter. The sophomore set a pair of school records with 59 assists and 89 total points.

In her final season on campus, Hazar had 47 assists to set a new career record for the program–finishing her time in college with a whopping 121 assists, which is 29 more than second place Becky Lynch (92).
