UNC senior midfielder Marie McCool–in addition to earning a First Team All-American selection–was also named the National Midfielder of the Year on Thursday by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association.

McCool became just the third Tar Heel to be named a First Team All-American in three consecutive seasons in 2018, while leading the team in ground balls (35), turnovers caused (23) and draw controls (165).

The New Jersey native also tallied 59 goals and 23 assists, with six of those goals eventually turning out to be game-winners.

She is also a finalist for this year’s Tewaaraton Award–lacrosse’s version of the Heisman Trophy. This makes her the only UNC player ever to be a finalist for the honor in two consecutive seasons.
