UNC men’s golf sophomore Ryan Burnett was one of 15 players named Thursday to the watch list for the Fall Haskins Award, which is presented annually to the top men’s college golfer of the year.
Both Burnett and the Tar Heels as a team are ranked No. 7 in the country, according to Golfweek.
The sophomore has a stroke average of 68.83 through four tournaments this season, shooting under 70 a total of seven times. He also won his first collegiate tournament at the Turning Stone Tiger Invitational in Verona, NY last month.
“Ryan has certainly had a tremendous start to the season,” head coach Andrew DiBitetto said. “He’s had success in different ways in all four of our tournaments. There have been times when he’s hit the ball really well, other times he’s putted well, some rounds he has done both well, and there have even been stretches when his hasn’t done either but he’s used his mind to achieve good results.”
