A list of 20 preseason watch list candidates for the Karl Malone Award was revealed Thursday by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, with UNC junior Garrison Brooks finding his name among the mix.

The award has honored the top power forward in men’s college basketball over each of the last five seasons.

Candidates were determined by a national committee of top college basketball personnel.

Brooks has been a starter for the Tar Heels over each of his first two seasons on campus, but is expected to take a leap this year as an experienced player on a team full of new faces.

He joins Notre Dame’s John Mooney and Virginia’s Mamadi Diakite as ACC forwards on this watch list.
