A list of 20 candidates for this year’s Karl Malone Award watch list was released Thursday by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, with UNC senior Garrison Brooks among those selected.
The award is presented annually to the top power forward in college basketball.
Brooks staked his claim by putting together a fantastic season last year despite UNC’s overall struggles as a team. He was an All-ACC performer and posted averages of 16.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game–all while shooting nearly 54 percent from the floor.
He is expected to be the leader of the team once again this season, despite a massive influx of young talent in both the frontcourt and backcourt.
This 20-player watch list will be trimmed down to 10 players in January, with the final five determined in late February. The winner will be revealed on Apr. 9, 2021.
