A top 25 wrestling showdown on Friday night saw the No. 25 Princeton Tigers defend their home mat with a 23-16 win over No. 15 UNC.
A pair of early major decision victories helped the Tigers jump out to an 8-3 lead, while a pair of late pins–worth six team points each–ultimately sealed the deal for the home team.
Overall, UNC won five of the 10 individual matches but struggled to pick up bonus points.
Heavyweight Cory Daniel closed the night with a 19-5 major decision victory, although that would be the only extra point the team would receive.
In perhaps the most anticipated match of the dual, Princeton’s No. 1 ranked 149-pound wrestler in the nation–Matthew Kolodzik–defeated No. 5 Austin O’Connor by a tight score of 3-2.
