In a rivalry showdown Friday night at Carmichael Arena, the No. 3 NC State Wolfpack came out on top with a 28-10 victory over the No. 14 UNC wrestling team.

Of the 10 individual matches during Friday’s dual, the Tar Heels won just three–with Jaime Hernandez, Austin O’Connor and Kennedy Monday each coming out on top in their respective bouts.

Hernandez–who is ranked No. 11 nationally at 133 pounds–picked up a 3-2 victory over No. 14 Jarrett Trombley.

At 149 pounds, O’Connor proved why he is ranked No. 1 in the weight class with a 10-3 major decision victory over Ed Scott.

Ranked No. 8 at 165 pounds, Monday held strong with a 4-2 victory over No. 15 Thomas Bullard.

NC State was simply too much to handle, earning a pair of technical fall victories and a win by pinfall as part of its seven match wins.

UNC fell to 2-1 this season with the loss, while the Wolfpack won for the eighth consecutive time in the rivalry and improved to 4-0.
