The 24th-ranked UNC wrestling team suffered a crushing defeat Friday night in Raleigh, as the Tar Heels lost 26-7 to the No. 6 NC State Wolfpack at Reynolds Coliseum.

NC State (14-1, 4-0 ACC) dominated from start to finish, winning eight of the 10 individual matches to take the team win without hardly breaking a sweat.

The Tar Heels (8-10, 2-2 ACC) only received victories from two of their highest-ranked wrestlers–149-pounder Troy Heilmann (No. 9) and 174-pounder Ethan Ramos (No. 16).

In the second match of the evening, Ramos earned four points for the team with a 17-8 major decision over NC State’s Daniel Bullard–one of just two Wolfpack wrestlers not ranked in the top 25 among their weight class.

This gave UNC a brief lead on the scoreboard, but it would not last for long.

NC State then ran off the next six match victories before Heilmann earned a hard-fought 5-1 decision over No. 13 Beau Donahue.
