FC Dallas selected UNC sophomore defender John Nelson with the No. 10 overall pick of Friday’s MLS SuperDraft, making him the eighth first round selection the Tar Heels have had in eight years under head coach Carlos Somoano.
The native of Medina, Ohio earned Second Team All-ACC honors last season, while starting all 19 games and helping UNC have one of the nation’s best defenses.
