A top-25 wrestling showdown on Friday night at Carmichael Arena saw the 17th-ranked Tar Heels come out on top over the No. 12 Princeton Tigers by a score of 25-11.

It was an impressive performance by UNC, which was helped greatly by No. 2 ranked Austin O’Connor–who earned a pinfall victory over No. 15 Mike D’Angelo at 149 pounds to give the Tar Heels a commanding 17-8 lead in the team score.

Andrew Gunning (heavyweight) and Zach Sherman (141 pounds) also played a big role by winning their matches by major decisions, earning the Tar Heels four points each time.

Princeton won only three of the night’s 10 individual matches, falling to 2-3 on the year. All of those losses, however, have come against ranked competition.

UNC, meanwhile, improves to 8-1 with the victory.
