Having posted an incredible debut season so far for UNC, freshman attacker Jamie Ortega was named the ACC Women’s Lacrosse Freshman of the Year on Tuesday–as the league announced its individual awards.
Ortega has started up front for head coach Jenny Levy in all 18 games this season, scoring a team-high 58 goals. This includes 15 goals over the three games in last week’s ACC Tournament, which set a new all-time record for the event.
She also scored a career-high seven goals in the regular season finale against Duke, showing that she continues to play better as the beginning of the upcoming NCAA Tournament draws closer.
