
Dorothy Chester of Cedar Grove won a $212,371 jackpot off a $1 lottery ticket earlier this month, the North Carolina Education Lottery said in a release Wednesday. Chester played the online version of the lottery’s Cash 5 game. The odds of matching all five numbers winning the jackpot in this game are 1 in 962,598.
Chester claimed her prize Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required federal and state tax withholdings, Chester will take home $152,929, which she told the lottery she plans to use to pay bills.
Cash 5 is one of a number of games in the North Carolina Education Lottery where players have the option of either buying physical tickets at a retail location or playing online through the lottery website or its app. Wednesday’s jackpot is set at $110,000.
According to the North Carolina Education Lottery, programs in Orange County received more than $8 million in support from lottery funds last year.
