With Election Day on Tuesday, it’s a light week for local government: many elected boards have the week off, and the ones that do meet mostly have lighter agendas. Orange County Commissioners will make one big official decision, though: they’re slated to appoint a new county tax administrator, following last year’s controversial property revaluation process that saw many homeowners complaining that the county’s tax burden got unfairly shifted from businesses to residents.
Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
Orange County
Orange County Commissioners meet Thursday, November 5, at 7 p.m. in the Whitted Building. On this week’s agenda: commissioners will officially appoint a new county tax administrator and extend the mission of the county’s Tax Assessment Work Group, as officials continue working to enact reforms after last year’s controversial property revaluation.
