This could be the greatest $1 ever spent.
Vann Ray of Efland won a prize of $953,275 from a $1 lottery ticket, the North Carolina Education Lottery announced Thursday.
The lottery shared a release saying Ray bought the ticket from the Efland M-Mart on Mount Willing Road and collected his prize on Wednesday. After required state and federal taxes, Ray will take home $676,921.
The ticket was from the game ‘Cash 5,’ in which players hope to buy a ticket with five numbers to match the lottery drawings, which are held every night.
Ticket sales from Cash 5 and other games raise more than $900 million per year for education, with $8.1 million of that going to Orange County in 2021.
