An Orange County man won $200,000 on a $3 Powerball ticket last month. Neil Warren of Rougemont bought his ticket online and matched all five numbers on the November 15 drawing to win $50,000. His Power Play ticket then quadrupled the prize money to $200,000.
Warren claimed his winnings at lottery headquarters in Raleigh Tuesday. After required federal and state taxes, he took home $143,501.
Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot currently stands at a $775 million annuity or $362.5 million in cash. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292 million. Powerball is one of several games in the North Carolina Education Lottery in which players can either physically buy tickets or do so online through the lottery website or app.
Funds from the North Carolina Education Lottery support programs across the state. Last year, Orange County received $8.2 million in lottery funds.
