Fall is now officially here, with local government meetings officially back in swing. As we close out September, several town and county governments across the region are set to hold business meetings and work sessions.

Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.

Will Atherton, Chair of the Orange County Schools Board of Education, in the Whitted Building in Hillsborough in 2020. The school board will hold two meetings this week: one among its own members, and another with county commissioners and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education.

ORANGE COUNTY

Monday night features a trio of local meetings for elected bodies, two of which are in Orange County. The Orange County Board of Education meets at 7 p.m. in the Whitted Building, while the Hillsborough Board of Commissioners is holding a work session in the Town Hall Annex board room at the same time. Click here for the school board’s agenda, and here for the Hillsborough commissioners’ agenda.

The Carrboro Town Council is off this week, so there is no meeting slated for Tuesday. The Board of Orange County Commissioners is not meeting on Tuesday, but will be gathering on Thursday, September 29. The twice-annual check-in with the local school boards is slated for 7 p.m. in the Whitted Building. Click here for the agenda for the joint commissioner and school boards meeting. Meanwhile, the evening before, the Chapel Hill Town Council will hold a regular business meeting in Town Hall. An agenda for the town meeting can be downloaded here.

Aside from elected officials, there is an additional set of meetings to track this week: the UNC Board of Trustees are set to gather for the first time since classes began in Chapel Hill this fall. Board members and university officials will gather at the Carolina Inn on Thursday for committee meetings, with the typical full board meeting set for Friday morning at 10 a.m. Agendas for the Board of Trustees can be found here.

CHATHAM AND DURHAM COUNTIES

In Chatham County on Monday night, the Pittsboro Board of Commissioners is meeting in its every-other week format. The meeting is set to begin at the Chatham County Agriculture & Conference Center at 7 p.m., with its agenda available here. Meanwhile, the Siler City commissioners and Chatham County commissioners are off from regular board meetings this week.

The county board, however, is holding a brief special meeting on the morning of Tuesday, September 27. The commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. in the Finance Office Conference Room in the Chatham County Annex Building to consider a request for a “pyrotechnic display at the Chatham Charter School,” which is slated to happen before the board’s next regular meeting.

Only one elected body is set to meet in Durham County this week: the Board of County Commissioners. While subject to change, the commissioners are slated to hold a regular session at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28 in the Durham County Administration Building.
