The upcoming Easter weekend starting Friday, April 18 will affect several local government services around the Orange County community, as government workers are given a holiday. Here’s what residents can expect.
Town of Chapel Hill
Good Friday is an official town holiday. Residential trash will not be affected, but collection of yard trimmings, curbside recycling and commercial trash will not occur on Friday. Recycling will be collected on Saturday, April 19, with no make-up day for yard trimmings. Commercial trash will be collected earlier in the week. The Orange County Landfill and Waste Recycling Centers will be closed on Good Friday and Sunday, April 20.
Chapel Hill transit will run Sunday routes (no U and NU routes), and N and NS routes will also run. EZ Ride will operate from 8:15 a.m. to 6:52 p.m. Safe Rides will not operate all weekend. The 420 route will operate on Friday.
The Chapel Hill Public Library will remain open on Friday, but will be closed on Easter Sunday, April 20. The Public Housing administrative office will be closed.
The Parks and Recreation Administrative offices, Chapel Hill Community Center Pool, Hargraves Center and Teen Center will all be closed on Friday and Sunday. For more information, click here.
Town of Carrboro
Town of Carrboro government offices will be closed in observance of the Good Friday holiday on April 18. Residents who normally receive solid waste collection on Friday will be serviced on Monday, April 21. For more information, click here.
Town of Hillsborough
Town offices will be closed on Friday, April 18. There will be no solid waste collection on Friday, Residents whose garbage and brush are normally picked up on Fridays will receive service on Monday, April 21. Orange County waste and recycling centers will be closed on April 18 and 20.
Rollout recycling and garbage carts may be placed by the street as early as 4 p.m. the day before collection. They should be removed by 6 a.m. the day after collection. For more information, click here.
Orange County
Orange County administrative offices will be closed. Curbside recycling will be pushed to Saturday, April 19. Recycling and convenience centers, Solid Waste administrative offices and the landfill and all related services will be closed on Friday and Sunday.
All branches of the Orange County Library will be closed Friday and Sunday.
Orange County emergency services are available seven days a week, 24 hours a day. The county will resume normal operating schedules on Monday, April 21. For more information, click here.
