After a brief hiatus, Google Fiber is set to resume construction in Carrboro on January 13.

Construction was halted late last year after contractors for Google Fiber hit multiple gas lines in Carrboro. The town said Google Fiber voluntarily paused construction after deciding to re-evaluate construction plans in the best interest of the public.

Public safety is the highest priority for the Town,” Carrboro said in the release announcing the halting of construction. “Our goal is to work closely with Google Fiber, OWASA and Dominion Gas to improve coordination and communication on this project that will ultimately be of great benefit for our community.”

These are the locations that Google Fiber plans to work upon resuming construction:

Traditional Boring Locations:

  • Main St from Davie St back towards Fidelity St, moving onto Fidelity to the hut
  • Old Fayetteville Rd, down and including Berryhill Dr
  • Mary St, Lorraine St and Carol
  • Weathervane Dr and work northward along Bolin Forest Dr and Bolin Creek Dr

Microtrench Subdivision Location:

  • Lake Hogan Farm “area” – efforts from locators much less and we will coordinate with the locators directly
