Orange County authorities are investigating after a BP Family Fare in Hillsborough was burglarized early Thursday morning.

Per a release from the sheriff’s office, suspects in a truck drove the vehicle in reverse into the glass door of the store. Two men then climbed through the hole in the glass and stole cartons of cigarettes and a dessert pastry before driving away.

Surveillance video showed a white Toyota Tundra pickup truck backing into the area in front of the glass door and then accelerating into it.

Two black males exited the truck and entered the store. Both were wearing dark sweatshirts or jackets and one was wearing a blue knit hat. No description is available for the driver of the vehicle. He or she remained in the truck.

According to Sheriff Charles Blackwood, several similar robberies occurred recently in Wake County. In those cases, the suspects used a stolen vehicle.

“We appreciate the assistance Hillsborough Police provided Thursday morning.” said Blackwood, “We also want to commend the witness in this case. He observed criminal activity and did the right thing. When he noticed the crime in progress, he did not approach the suspects, which would have been a dangerous thing to do. Instead, he paid close attention to what he could see and he stayed nearby until law enforcement arrived on scene.”

Anyone who recognizes the suspect or the truck is asked to call OCSO Investigator Dylan Hendricks at (919) 245-2951. The truck is a newer model Toyota Tundra with four-doors. It has a small piece of a rear taillight missing. It may also have some damage in the area of the trailer hitch.
