Carrboro Police are continuing the investigation into the false call of an active shooter at Carrboro Elementary yesterday that brought 50 law enforcement officers to the school.

Police have determined that the call originated from within the elementary school and was placed by a juvenile who is a student at the school. The investigation is continuing to determine if charges against the juvenile are appropriate.

The 911 call forced officials to place Carrboro Elementary and Carrboro United Methodist Child Care on lockdown while law enforcement officers searched the school. Ultimately, nothing was found and kids were released early to waiting parents. No injuries were reported, an active shooter was not found and all kids were safe and accounted for.

Law enforcement officers from the Carrboro Police Department, Chapel Hill Police Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene, as well as fire fighters and first responders.

Carrboro Police issued a statement Wednesday, saying:

“We would like to thank the community and especially the parents of students at Carrboro Elementary School for their patience in what was a tense situation. While we are relieved that this situation turned out to be false, we want the community to know that we will continue to be vigilant in our training and preparation for these types of incidents.”
