Carrboro Police say a man already in custody has been charged in a separate statutory rape case.

Authorities said on Thursday that 30-year-old Carlos Alberto Morales Lopez was charged with first-degree statutory rape of a child, first-degree statutory sex offense and first-degree burglary. That comes after he was arrested on March 1 by members of the US Marshals Service Taskforce, when he was charged with one count of statutory rape.

The bond on the first case was set at $500,000. Authorities said he remained confined in the Orange County Jail, and a second bond was issued at $300,000.

Thursday’s charges came from a separate case, Carrboro Police said. Authorities are continuing to investigate Lopez and are asking anyone with additional information to contact Carrboro Police at (919) 918-7397 or Crime Stoppers at (919) 942-7515.
