A former Town of Carrboro employee is facing seven felony charges after officials said he used a town card to purchase four sets of tires for personal use.
Christopher Cates was the public works superintendent in Carrboro. A police report showed that the 59-year-old Cates was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with three counts of common law forgery and four counts of embezzlement, all felonies.
A Carrboro spokesperson confirmed Wednesday afternoon that Cates was no longer employed by the town.
Records show that Cates was released after being processed and is scheduled to appear in court on November 15.
