UPDATE: The Town of Carrboro has tweeted that the school has been searched and nothing has been located. The school will notify parents when they can pick up kids and a bus will shuttle kids to Town Hall for an early pick up.

Carrboro Elementary and Carrboro United Methodist Child Care were on lockdown Tuesday morning after police received a report of an active shooter.

Carrboro Alderman Bethany Chaney tweeted shortly before noon that police were on the scene after receiving a call reporting an active shooter.

Police swept the area and the school, but found no shooter or suspicious person. Shortly after noon, Carrboro officials reported there was no active shooter, no one was hurt, and all the students are safe and accounted for.

As of 12:45 pm, the school is still on soft lockdown.

Parents who want to pick up their students early are being advised to go to Carrboro Town Hall, not the school. As of 12:45 pm, there were about 60 parents gathered at Carrboro Town Commons. The school is notifying parents via calls and texts when they can pick up their students.

School officials report there will also be a bus shuttling kids from the school to Town Hall for early pickup. Normal pickup at the school will resume at 1:30; students can be picked up in the school’s auditorium.
