A drive-thru COVID-19 testing event will be held in Carrboro this Wednesday.

The event will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. on July 22 at Carrboro High School, located on Rock Haven Road.

The Orange County Health Department is working with StarMed to host this testing event.

Carrboro Mayor Lydia Lavelle said it was a goal of Orange County to expand testing to better reach all community members.

“We want it in the southern end so we can address our immigrant population, refugee population, our African American population, farmers, migrant workers – folks who don’t necessarily have quick or easy access to get the testing done,” Lavelle said.

Lavelle said making testing available for everyone is a crucial step in managing this pandemic – especially as cases continue to rise. Orange County alone has over 1,100 confirmed cases as of Monday.

“Our Hispanic population is disproportionately represented right now in the COVID cases that we have,” Lavelle said. “So it’s really important to make this safe and easy and accessible to as many folks as we can.”

This event’s nasal swab testing is 100 percent free. Results will be available within 3 to 5 days of testing.

Pre-registration for testing is strongly encouraged and can be done here. A telehealth appointment is also required prior to testing.

The state’s latest guidance about testing applies, which means symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals are eligible to be tested.
